There is a story here with this picture. First of all, I kind of resemble a stomach, don't you think? Anyway, this is a photocopy of the actual picture Maggie drew at school. It was in her homework folder along with a typed letter. The letter said that the story "The 100th day of School" was read to the kids and they were instructed to draw a picture of 1 thing they remembered from the story. Then the letter said, Here is a list of the things in the story and attached is the picture your child drew. (My mommy was not one of the things in the story, btw). At first, I was like, FAIL! We have failed our child! She doesn't know how to do anything! But then I thought about the fact that the letter was typed AND they photocopied the picture which makes me think Maggie was not the only one who did not do as instructed! Hee. Those damn teachers' children. They never follow the rules. Oh well. There are some suggestions at the bottom of the page such as asking the child to predict the story based on the cover or title page or asking questions throughout the course of the story. I have 7th graders who still struggle with those skills so I don't think I'm going to sweat this too much. Plus Maggie has another year of "pre-K."

Also, I went to the library today and got some new reading material! There is a severe book shortage at our house. When I went to check out, the library informed me that I had a $21 fine. SIGH. Better than my last fine which was $32, I believe. I wrote out my check and showed my driver's license when asked. The librarian exclaimed that my license was expired and she couldn't use it. I told her to just pretend that she forgot to write that part on the check. She didn't think that was too funny but grudgingly agreed to take it. I said that I had not been informed that my license was about to expire but she hissed that they only remind you about your license plate NOT your driver's license. Sheesh. Old hag librarian fussing at me. Guess I'll go take care of that next week when I take a half day off to go to the eye doctor!

  1. Allison,

You have a very eclectic taste in books. How long does the library let you take the books out for these days. I think the last time I went to the library had to be before I left NY (in 1996)! I don't think I even have a card for Florida. Guess I better get on that since I want to take E! Enjoy your books.
