1.28.10

Tonight, Maggie and I had the most annoying trip home EVER. We live in the country so there shouldn't be very much traffic, but NO. That was not what happened. The road that runs between her daycare and our house has been closed for about a hundred years while they build an airport or something. We headed down our usual alternate route and I kept seeing signs that the road ahead was closed. I didn't believe them so we got up to the train tracks and had to turn around as there were backhoes and bulldozers all over the place. UGH. This was less than a mile from our house. We backtracked and ended up in a mile long line waiting to turn left and Maggie fell asleep. THEN, more traffic was ahead. Oh, I loathe traffic. I did see a skeleton on the side of the road though. Maybe it was a motorist who perished while sitting in traffic. Or a deer, perhaps. Of course I did not have the camera with me, so I took a picture of our dinner tonight instead.
The flash reflected off of the steam like crazy so I didn't get the best shot but this is kielbasa soup. It is one of my FAVORITE meals of all time. I found the recipe in the paper a long time ago and it immediately earned a permanent place in my recipe binder. If I were a really good blogger, I would type up the recipe to share but I don't feel like it right now. It has kielbasa, carrots, pasta, zucchini (I told M that they were pickles so she'd eat it), spinach, great northern beans and tomatoes in it. It is absolutely delicious. Yucky frozen rainy mess is due to start falling tomorrow afternoon and I think soup will be perfect this weekend!
