11.26.10

Today, we rather unexpectedly said goodbye to David's dad, Rege.  Barb and I had a big morning of Black Friday shopping and when she got home, he wasn't breathing.  He hadn't been well in a good while but it was still a shock.

David's dad was always extremely good to me.  He took me to the fireworks on the 4th of July when David and I were engaged but David had to work.  He made this yummy chicken pasta red sauce dinner that I always thought was delicious.  He let us live with him and Barb while our house was being built.  He always had Cheetos for me and bought me golden Oreos after our house was broken into.  He took David and me to Shaker Town for the best lemon ice box pie while we were traveling on the road with him and the Celtic Trader.  On that same trip, we had this carrot cake with a layer of cheesecake in the middle instead of frosting.  He and I still talked about that cake.  He was always good for a CORNY joke or comment that made David and me roll our eyes.  He taught me to enjoy Celtic music, especially "Calliope House" by Alasdair Fraser.  He took David and me to Dougie Maclean concerts at the Neighborhood Theater, with dinner at Boudreaux's first.  He loved David, Maggie and me so much and I just hope he knew that the feeling was mutual.

Godspeed, Rege.
You will be missed.

  1. I'm so sorry, Allison! I know that's a lame thing to say, but I just feel awful for your family. I loved what you wrote. I'll be praying. Wish I could give you a hug.

  2. I too loved this man! I am so glad that he gave Mike and I the chance to work with He and Barb for the Celtic Trader. It gave me the chance to really get to know him and bond with him! We had so many stories from Ligoneer, West Virgina and Grandfather Mountain! We laughed, we ate, we drank, and we throughly enjoyed every minute! Rege did what he loved and loved what he did! He made sure that those around him knew he loved them!
I am so glad that Mike, Molly and I had last weekend with Rege and Barb! We got to talk and remember all of the good times we have had together!
I love and miss you "Big Guy"

  3. Allison and Meg: You two are making me cry. His heart was as big as he was... it had room for everyone in this huge crazy family. The group of us here in town had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and he said how he enjoyed the three "little ones". I'm glad he had as much time with them as he did, even though it was way too short!
